Unitree launched its humanoid robot 🦾 🤖

Yesterday, Unitree launched its G1 humanoid robot for $16,000.

We covered its introduction, here.

What can it do?

The G1 stands just over 4 ft tall and weighs 77 lb. It has 23 degrees of freedom, allowing for complex movements. Its three-fingered hands can handle delicate tasks, and it uses 3D vision to navigate.

How does it compare to competitors?

This price point significantly undercuts other humanoid robots on the market. Unitree claims to already hold 60% of the global quadruped robot market share.

Who's it for?

The G1 is aimed at research institutions, universities, and businesses experimenting with robotic automation. It's not yet ready for consumer tasks like housework.

What's next?

While described as production-ready, mass production hasn't been confirmed. If successful, the G1 could potentially be integrated into various manufacturing, healthcare, and more industries.

What's StormCast?

It's a generative AI model for short-range weather forecasts. Think thunderstorms and flash floods, predicted with scary accuracy.

How good is it?

StormCast claims to be 10% more accurate than NOAA's current gold standard. It can simulate storms down to 3-kilometer resolution, hourly, up to 6 hours ahead.

Why do I care?

Extreme weather causes massive damage and loss of life annually. Better predictions could save lives and cash.

What's next?

NVIDIA's testing this with The Weather Company and Colorado State. If it pans out, it could reshape how we prep for Mother Nature's tantrums.
