MAIN COURSE
Are AI tests becoming obsolete? 👨🏫 📝
Earlier this month, Stanford’s Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) released its 2024 AI Index Report. It covers where AI is used the most, which countries are concerned about AI, and more.
Oh, HAI there…
So AI is a… HAI performer? 🤭
Indeed. The report states that AI outperforms human capabilities in many benchmarks such as image classification, reading comprehension, visual reasoning, and natural language inference.
So, what?
The researchers urge the need to develop new, more challenging benchmarks. Instead of just measuring competence, new tests must highlight where humans still outperform AI models.
So AI is better than humans?
Nope. LLMs still struggle with generating false facts, complex cognitive tasks, advanced math, visual commonsense reasoning (VCR) and more.
AI's rapid growth: spooky or stimulating? What'dya think? |
Next year’s report should be interesting… 🤔

SIDE SALAD
It’s the low quality vids for me… 🤖 🤳
Last week, Adobe revealed VideoGigaGAN. It’s an AI model that upscales videos by up to 8 times.
What’s VideoGigaGAN?
It’s an upscaling model that outperforms previous methods in enhancing details and ensuring smooth consistency across frames.
Why do I care?
VideoGigaGAN could be used to restore old films, enhance resolution in security footage, upgrade video quality in sports replays, and more.
How does it work?
It adapts the previous GigaGAN architecture to video by using temporal attention layers, flow-guided features, and antialiasing techniques to upscale videos.
So, it’s perfect?
Nah. It struggles with small objects, long videos, and more.
