MAIN COURSE

Put a ring on it 🤖 💍

On Wednesday, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Ring. It's a ring that provides health monitoring, AI insights, and more.

Why did Farmer Joe get kicked out of the gym? For destroying his calves. 👨‍🌾 🐮

What is it?

The Galaxy Ring offers 24/7 health monitoring with AI-driven insights. It weighs about 3 grams and has a 7-day battery life.

What does it do?

It tracks your sleep patterns, menstrual cycles, heart rate, exercise, and more. It automatically detects when you're working out, sends inactive alerts, and more.

When can I get one?

It hits stores on July 24, but you can pre-order it for $399.

Are people buying this thing?

Samsung aims to ship 4 million rings in 2025. Its goal is to compete with Oura which currently has a 52% market share.

Does it work with my iPhone?

Nah. It only integrates seamlessly with Samsung devices.

SIDE SALAD

AI-powered muscle gains? 🦾 🧠

Yesterday, Northwestern engineers unveiled a soft actuator. It’s an AI-powered, soft, flexible robot that mimics human muscle movement.

What’s a banana’s workout? The splits. 🍌 😂

What is it?

It allows robots to move by expanding and contracting, like real muscles. It's soft, flexible, and cheap to produce.

What do they do?

The researchers demonstrated a worm-like robot navigating through pipes, an artificial bicep lifting a 500-gram weight 5,000 times without failing, and more.

How cheap are we talking?

Each robot costs about $3 in materials (excluding the small motor). That's a fraction of the cost of typical rigid actuators used in robotics.

Who cares?

Soft robots are safer around humans and more adaptable to real-world environments.

"If a soft robot hit a person, it would not hurt nearly as much as getting hit with a rigid, hard robot. Our actuator could be used in robots that are more practical for human-centric environments."
