ChatGPT sees your screen (run) 💻 🔥

On Wednesday, OpenAI released major updates for ChatGPT's desktop apps. These include deeper system integration for Mac and Windows.

What's new for Windows?

You get quick access with Alt + Space, conversation continuity with Companion Window, screen sharing, Advanced Voice Mode, and more.

How about Mac?

You get a beta Work with App feature that lets ChatGPT read from VS Code, Xcode, Terminal, and more — with your permission.

Who can use it?

The Windows app is open to all, but Mac's new features are Plus and Team only for now. Enterprise and Education coming soon.

Any limitations?

Unlike GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT can read and suggest code improvements but can't write directly into dev tools yet.

Why do I care?

It's laying groundwork for ChatGPT to become a true desktop assistant, working across your daily apps and workflows.

What's coming next?

OpenAI plans to add support for more writing tools and text-based applications.

Like other non-Siri assistants, it can't change system settings or directly control apps.

So, what can it do?

It works with Google's ecosystem. You can ask for directions and get Maps, request a song and launch YouTube Music.

It's part of Google's strategy to make AI accessible everywhere as competition with Apple intensifies.
