ChatGPT killed search ads🧠🔎

On Monday, OpenAI made ChatGPT Search free for everyone. The feature lets you search the web through ChatGPT's conversational interface.

What's new?

You can search for real-time info like events, restaurants, and weather with visuals/live links without a Plus subscription.

How does it work?

ChatGPT either searches automatically when needed or when you ask it to, giving you answers instead of just links.

What makes it special?

There’s no ads (for now), voice search, and mobile features like maps and business hours.

What's OpenAI saying?

“I can't imagine ChatGPT without search now. I use it so often,” says Kevin Weil, OpenAI's product lead.

Where can I use it?

It works on desktop, mobile apps, and web browsers. Just log into your ChatGPT account.

Why should I care?

It's taking on Google with a more conversational, ad-free search experience. We'll have to see how OpenAI plans to make money from this long-term.

On Tuesday, Google unveiled Veo 2. It’s a new video model that creates longer, higher-quality videos with cinematic control.

What can it do?

Create 4K videos up to 2 minutes long with specific camera angles, lens types, and depth of field.

What's actually available?

Public access through VideoFX is limited to 720p and 8-second clips for now.

What makes it special?

It understands cinematography - ask for a "low-angle tracking shot" or specific camera moves and it delivers.

Is it perfect?

Not quite. It still struggles with complex scenes and maintaining consistency throughout videos.

How does it compare to Sora?

It beats OpenAI's Sora in resolution (4K vs. 1080p) and length (2 minutes vs. 20 seconds).

Is it safe?

Every video includes SynthID watermarking to help detect AI-generated content.
