AI = YouTube and chill 🤖 ❤️ 🤖

On Tuesday, Proof News revealed that OpenAI, Anthropic, Nvidia, Apple, and more used YouTube content to train AI without creators' consent.

What happened?

OpenAI, Apple, Anthropic, Nvidia, Salesforce, and more used transcripts from over 170,000 YouTube videos to train their AI models. Creators had no idea.

Who's behind this?

A nonprofit called EleutherAI compiled the data to provide training materials for developers and academics. But big tech decided to help themselves too.

Is this allowed?

Nah. YouTube's Terms of Service prohibit using content without permission. Creators were completely in the dark about this.

Apple too?

Yupp. They reportedly used the dataset to train OpenELM, a model linked to new AI features for iPhones and MacBooks.

Will there be consequences?

Probably not much beyond bad PR. Legal ramifications for this kind of data use are still rare.

So, what now?

Time will tell how creators and users react. But one thing's for sure – AI's been binge-watching YouTube harder than any of us. 🍿🤖

Microsoft rips off Canva 🎨📱

Yesterday, Microsoft launched its AI-powered Designer app for iOS and Android. It's a Canva-like, AI designer app.

What's Designer?

It's a Canva-like app that uses AI to generate images and designs from text prompts. You can create stickers, greeting cards, invitations, collages, and more.

What's new?

Designer is free, and out of preview and available in over 80 languages on web, mobile, and Windows.

How does it work?

You can use “prompt templates” to kickstart your creativity. Customize styles, share templates, and build on others' ideas.

What can I make?

Stickers, emojis, clip art, wallpapers, monograms, avatars... the list goes on. You can even transform selfies with AI-powered styles.

Cool. Is that it?

Nah. Microsoft is integrating Designer into Word and PowerPoint through Copilot. Soon, you'll be able to create banners for your documents based on their content. You can erase objects, remove backgrounds, auto-crop images right in the app, and more.
