MAIN COURSE
OpenAI loves safety this much 👷♂️ 🤏
Yesterday, OpenAI announced its new Safety and Security Committee. The CEO, Sam Altman, and several board members are on it.
What’s the point?
Sam Altman, Adam D’Angelo, Nicole Seligman, and more will handle OpenAI’s “critical safety and security decisions.” They will report to OpenAI’s board, which they are also on.
What about checks and balances?
Good question. Last week, OpenAI’s co-founder and Superalignment team leader, Ilya Sutskever, resigned with other safety officials. Last year, he got Altman temporarily fired.
So, what?
Besides forming a safety team stacked with its own board members, OpenAI's leadership is not addressing previous concerns about safety and alignment.
Don’t be safety-blinded. Be safety-minded. 👷♂️

SIDE SALAD
Do you even code, bro? 🤖 💻
I code, therefore, I am. 👨💻
Yesterday, Mistral announced Codestral. It’s a coding model trained on 80+ programming languages.
What does it do?
It excels in code generation and speed, outperforming much larger competitors. It integrates with tools like Visual Studio Code and JetBrains.
What’s under the hood?
It’s a 22B parameter model with a 32K context window. It was trained in 80+ languages including Swift, Bash, Python, Java, C++, JavaScript and more.
Sweet. How do I use it?
You can download it on HuggingFace. It’s available through Mistral's API platform. Unfortunately, it’s Mistral AI Non-Production License means you can only use it for research and testing. You can’t use it commercially.
What clothes do programmers wear? It depends on the dress code. 🤓
