PLUS: A ChatGPT mobile update
TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, human brains. Welcome back to your daily munch of AI news.
Here’s what’s on the menu today:
Afternoon tea for OpenAI 🇬🇧
OpenAI opens its first office outside of San Francisco in London.
NVIDIA & Snowflake sitting in a tree ☃️
NVIDIA and Snowflake partner to help businesses build generative AI.
ChatGPT Mobile update 📱
Bing search functionality for the ChatGPT app.
APPETIZER
OpenAI in the UK 🇬🇧
Well, well, well.
OpenAI announced a new office in London, their first international expansion.
This is OpenAI’s first office outside of San Francisco.
The London teams will research, engineer technologies, and collaborate with local policymakers and communities.
”We see this expansion as an opportunity to attract world-class talent and drive innovation in AGI development and policy.”
Last month, OpenAI threatened to leave the EU over the EU AI Act — and we’ve yet to see their reaction. The Brexit rigmarole means they’re not in the EU, but OpenAI’s proximity could allow them to project some influence.
And they’re prioritizing collaboration with governing officials in the UK, along with DeepMind.
Alphabet collabing with EU regulators… Alphabet owns Google… Google DeepMind… hmmm…
The UK, and London in particular, is becoming a hotspot: an AI-eager prime minister, new investment in AI, and a deep talent pool.
Guess who’s already headquartered in London?
DeepMind.
Our take: is this purely a global talent play, or is somebody trying to get in good with EU regulators? Or jockeying with DeepMind? Perhaps all of the above…
BUZZWORD OF THE DAY

MAIN COURSE
NVIDIA & Snowflake ☃️
NVIDIA announced a partnership with Snowflake. The goal: make generative AI applications easier to build.
A story as old as time itself: data cloud company Snowflake keeps shooting flirtatious glances over at GPU bro NVIDIA. NVIDIA catches one and blushes.
Cloud nine.
So, what makes these two so good for one another? Now you can build models using your own data with NVIDIA’s NeMo framework, all within Snowflake’s Data Cloud.
“Together, NVIDIA and Snowflake will create an AI factory that helps enterprises turn their valuable data in custom generative AI models to power groundbreaking new applications — right from the cloud platform that they use to run their businesses,“
All this, right after Snowflake acquired Neeva and Streamlit to integrate intelligent search and help customers build data apps within the platform.
Snowflake has been buying companies like crazy to keep users in their cloud. They’re not just storing data anymore. They want their customers building AI tools with the same data that’s stored in their ecosystem.
Our take: someone’s gotta say it — data companies and AI can’t keep their mitts off each other. Even more tea if you missed it: Databricks & MosaicML.
“You bring the gas, I’ll bring the matches”.
A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA
ChatGPT Mobile Update
A new ChatGPT iOS app update: Bing search functionality.
It was already on the desktop version, but now it’s also on the iPhone and iPad. Android users: “soon”. Hopefully.
You can use “Browse with Bing” by selecting it in the model switcher menu.
Trusting ChatGPT’s outputs becomes a lot easier if they’re tied back to real search results.
Our take: More fact checking, more better.
