Meet NEO: The robot butler 🏠 🔥

On Wednesday, Norwegian startup 1X unveiled NEO Beta. It’s a humanoid robot designed to assist in home environments.

What can NEO do?

It can retrieve and hand over objects (like backpacks), unpack and handle delicate items (like wine glasses, eggs), interpret human gestures and voice commands, lift up to 44 lbs, walk at 2.5 mph and jog at 7.5 mph.

What makes NEO special?

It features silent operation (unlike its noisy competitors), human-like dexterity with five-fingered hands, is 5.41 feet tall and weighs 66 lbs, uses “muscle-inspired” anatomy instead of rigid hydraulics, and employs embodied AI for continuous learning and adaptation.

Why should I care?

NEO could revolutionize home assistance and elder care. 1X is already testing NEO in real homes for feedback.

Where did 1x come from?

1X raised $100 million in January. Backers include OpenAI, Tiger Global, and EQT Ventures. NEO builds on lessons from 1X's previous robot, EVE.

Is it too good to be true?

Perhaps. Some on social media accused the demo videos of being fake.

On Wednesday, Cohere announced significant updates to its Command R and Command R+ AI models. It enhances their enterprise-level capabilities.

What's new?

The newest model has a 50% increase in throughput and a 20% reduction in latency. The hardware footprint is halved, it contains support for 23 languages, and boasts improved coding, math, and logical reasoning skills.

Why does it matter?

It provides faster, more cost-effective AI operations for businesses. It boasts reduced AI hallucinations with accurate, multilingual citations. It features enhanced structured data analysis for better decision-making, customizable AI governance and new Safety Modes.

• Multilingual RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation).

It’s available via Cohere's hosted API and Amazon SageMaker. Cohere plans to expand to additional cloud platforms.
