New Salesforce and Databricks expansion
PLUS: Google's $20 million AI fund
TOGETHER WITH
Good morning, human brains. Welcome back to your daily munch of AI news.
Here’s what’s on the menu today:
Skype’s new AI upgrades 🗣️ 💁♀️
Skype’s Bing Chat gets AI-powered rewrites, suggestions, and more.
Salesforce and Databricks expand partnership 🏢 💘
Simplifying customers’ data access and AI development.
Google’s $20 million AI fund 🤖 💰
Google launched the Digital Futures Fund for AI grants.
APPETIZER
Skype’s AI enhancements 🗣️ 💁♀️
Microsoft announced updates for Bing Chat in Skype. The updates include message rewrites, tone suggestions, etc.
Skype update, lolcats??
Well, razzle-dazzle:
1/ Skype’s AI now suggests message tones and rewrites messages.
2/ You can switch between tones like professional, casual, witty, etc.
3/ You can switch back to your original message if you don’t like the suggestion.
Our take: we’ll see more filter-outsourcing, so-to-speak, as more apps adopt this functionality. Sure, it’ll mean fewer mishaps in business communication, and maybe even personal relationships — after all, who needs unnecessary hostility?
But the switch between instant message training wheels and in-person conversations might be rough…
“Take this job and shove it.” 👎️ → “I’ve decided to pursue other opportunities.” 👍️

Zero-ETL
The ability for AI models to directly access and learn from raw data sources, which speeds up processes and ensures the most current data is used.

MAIN COURSE
Salesforce and Databricks’ expansion 🏢💘
We now witness the graceful transition from the Summer of AI-Corporate Love to the Autumn of… erm,
The goal: simplify data sharing across the two platforms to make AI development easier. The partnership enables zero-ETL data sharing for customers.
Love connection:
1/ Users can merge data from Salesforce’s Data Cloud with data from Databricks’ Lakehouse Platform.
2/ The benefit: simplified data management and easier security.
3/ You can now train AI models in Databricks and deploy them in Data Cloud applications.
4/ You get faster, unified data access for more personalized recommendations.
Our take: we forgot to mention, Salesforce announced a partnership with IBM just a few weeks back. They’re all cahoots, cahoots, I tell you!
The big | S | F | is tripling down on data sharing across every conceivable data platform. For good reason: the easier it is to integrate with Salesforce, the easier it’ll be to incorporate AI into business’ incumbent CRM.
So who’s next?
A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA
Google’s $20 million AI fund 🤖 💰
Google launched their Digital Futures Project yesterday. It’s a grant fund designated for AI-related think tanks and academic institutions.
Some thinks you can put in your own tank:
1/ The Digital Futures Project supports independent AI research in areas such as security, labor, and governance.
2/ Aspen Institute, MIT Work of the Future, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace have all received grants from the fund.
3/ The fund’s mission is to bring together diverse voices to address AI’s opportunities and challenges.
Our take: funding AI safety is officially part of the zeitgeist. $20 million is a drop in the bucket, but hey — something is better than nothing.
