Midjourney's newest feature

PLUS: Google's new AI privacy policy

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, human brains. Welcome back to your daily munch of AI news.

Here’s what’s on the menu today:

  • ChatGPT Browse disabled

OpenAI cites violations of their content guidelines as the reason behind the move.

  • Midjourney’s new “Pan” feature 🍳

    Outpainting with a single click.

  • Google calls dibs on data for AI 🐙

A sneaky update to their privacy policy.

APPETIZER

ChatGPT browse is MIA? 👀

But h-why? GPT was reportedly showing content in a manner that violated OpenAI’s guidelines.

Naughty, naughty.

They also issued a reminder that ChatGPT Plus is still in beta:

“Very grateful to the ChatGPT Plus scubscribers who have been helping us test the browsing feature. This is why we started with a beta—have received extremely valuable feedback, learned a lot, & will bring it back soon.”

Subtle.

Our take: There’s a lot on the line, so it’s understandable that OpenAI’s treading lightly. Sounds a little too careful, though — perhaps there’s a bigger reason for 86’ing the browse feature than content scraping.

BUZZWORD OF THE DAY

Outpainting

In AI image generation, outpainting refers to expanding the borders of an existing image by adding new elements with a text prompt. The process makes the image larger.

“Inpainting,“ on the other hand, is when AI fills in missing/damaged portions of an image.

FROM OUR PARTNERS

An emotional AI Voice generator.

Lovo uses AI to generate lifelike human voices. No more dull, robotic voiceovers for your projects; we're talking about an arsenal of 400+ voices with support for 100+ languages.

But here's the kicker: Lovo doesn't just spit out words - it does emotions. You're not just setting the language, you're also setting the mood 😏

  • 💵 It’s cheap. Hiring voiceover artists or maintaining a multilingual team is expensive. Lovo starts at $19/month.

  • 🏃 It’s fast. Producing a high-quality voiceover with human actors can take months. Lovo takes seconds.

  • 💌 It resonates. This is no Microsoft Sam. Lovo-generated voices have human emotion.

Imagine an AI-generated voiceover that actually sounds excited when introducing your product. It's like hiring an Oscar-winning actor for your voicemail.

Best of all? It’s free to try.

MAIN COURSE

Midjourney’s new “Pan” feature 🖼️

Midjourney introduced a new outpainting feature, dubbed “Pan.” Users can quickly extend their images with AI, vertically and side to side.

After upscaling a generated image, these four new buttons appear:

And when you select one, Midjourney extends the generation in your desired direction.

Easy as.

Before and after panning down:

Current limitations:

1/ You can only pan Midjourney-generated images.

2/ You’re limited to panning horizontally and vertically.

3/ Applying the “Zoom Out“ feature reverts the panned image to 1024 × 1024 pixels in 1:1 aspect ratio.

Our take: DALL-E, Stable Diffusion, Adobe, and Midjourney all offered outpainting before. But whether it’s text interfaces or adding buttons, these tools are becoming faster and easier to use — some of these features are starting to feel more and more like macros. Our bet is AI interfaces continue to simplify over time, just like we’ve seen with the new Pan tool.

A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA

Google’s privacy policy update 🦹‍♂️

Google made a stealthy change to its Privacy and Terms. Basically, if it’s on the web, it’s fodder for their AI models.

Yoink.

The previous policy stated Google would use the data “for language models“, to train Google Translate.

The revised version? Now we see “AI models“ and “Bard and Cloud AI capabilities“ were added.

Take: we’re not surprised in the slightest. It’s on Google’s land, so of course they’re going to use it for AI development.

Counter-take: is it right that Google own a claim to everything they touch, for any application? Feels a bit like boiling the proverbial frog. And how exactly does this interact with copyright? Who ordered fish tacos?
