APPETIZER

Microsoft Shopping AI 🛍️

Shoes.

Microsoft announced new AI shopping tools on Bing and Edge. The goal: bring “joy” back into shopping.

Naturally, to drain our wallets.

The notables:

1/ Buying Guides. Gathers product suggestions and related products.

2/ Review Summaries. Compiles product reviews, insights, and opinions.

3/ Price Match. Monitors price and requests a match AFTER purchase.

4/ Package Tracking. Keeps tracking info directly on Edge’s sidebar.

It reminds us of Google’s recent shopping upgrades with their virtual try-on feature.

Our take: AI might be the fastest way to our hearts and our wallets. In the short term, it means that online shopping is easier, which is better for the consumer. The question is: does this mean we’ll save time, or spend more money?

BUZZWORD OF THE DAY

PI

PI stands for “Personal Intelligence.”

It’s a generative AI chatbot created by Inflection AI, designed to be a more conscientoius, kinder AI. It can carry a conversation, give advice, provide information, and more.

MAIN COURSE

Inflection raises $1.3 Billion for PI 💸

That puts the year-old startup at a bind-moggling $4 billion valuation.

Lead investors: Microsoft & NVIDIA. Other investors include Bill Gates, Reid Hoffman, and Eric Schmidt.

Hi, PI.

According to Inflection, PI is designed to be kinder and more supportive than other Chatbots. It’s a companion that offers help in a friendly, natural way.

“Personal AI is going to be the most transformational tool of our lifetimes. This is truly an inflection point. We’re excited to collaborate with NVIDIA, Microsoft, and CoreWeave as well as Eric, Bill and many others to bring this vision to life.”

- Mustafa Suleyman, CEO.

Inflection, NVIDIA, and CoreWeave, a GPU cloud provider, claim they are building one of the largest AI clusters in the world.

The final AI cluster will contain 22,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs.

“The deployment of 22,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs in one cluster is truly unprecedented, and will support training and deployment of a new generation of large-scale AI models.“

GPUs ain’t cheap. And that helps justify why they “need” so much cash — at least sort of. Suleyman admits he’s happily taking advantage of a “tidal wave” of AI funding, calling it “nuts.”

Yeah, you can say that again.

Our take: Deep pockets = deep expectations. And that valuation…

Our take on PI itself: it’s quite friendly, but not a great conversationalist, yet. Lots of simple answers to its “A or B” type questions, a bit like an enthusiastic interrogation.

In an assistant role, however, it was impressive to see it approach problem-solving with first principles (in this case, a creating hooks for a paid marketing campaign).

A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA

Meta’s AI algorithm revealed

Meta spilled the tea on its AI content ranking system. How it ranks users’ content, how to control what you see, and upcoming tools for AI research.

How comforting, Zuckerburg.

Key takeaways:

1/ The process. AI gathers content, measures how users engage with similar content, and promotes content that it predicts will interest the viewer.

2/ How to customize the experience. A ‘Show more, Show less’ feature enables users to select what they want to see. Users can also go to the “Feeds“ tab to see a feed that isn’t algorithmically ranked.

3/ Research tools. Meta will release ‘Meta Content Library’ and its API in a couple of weeks. The Library contains data that can be “searched, explored, and filtered.“

”We hope by introducing these products to researchers early in the development process, we can receive constructive feedback to ensure we’re building the best possible tools to meet their needs.”

- Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs.

Our take: Keep your friends close and your AI closer. More insight means more control over what we see and share. Hopefully.
