More ChatGPT updates 🚀

OpenAI announced a set of new updates for ChatGPT. They’re rolling out upgraded processing in GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, a new function-calling feature, and a price cut.

1/ ChatGPT makes its content window 4 times larger. 16k tokens and 20 pages of text comprehension ability.

2/ The new function-calling feature lets ChatGPT call functions it deems appropriate for your queries based on your text inputs. All you need to do is give it the functions beforehand. We’ve crossed a new threshold: text query to API call.

This functionality will expand what ChatGPT can do by more directly interfacing with the real world, like in this example:

Cha-ching.

3/ Price cut. GPT-3.5 token will cost you 25% less.

Mark your calendars: these features go live on June 27th.

Our take: Expect more function calling-esque features in the future. The trend of token capacity expansion will likely continue.

BUZZWORDS OF THE DAY

CUDA

CUDA stands for Compute Unified Device Architecture. It’s a software framework created by Nvidia to give developers access to lower-level GPU functions.

The big benefit? Processing speed. CUDA uses parallelization to give developers a speed boost over traditional CPUs when processing data in AI applications.

AMD & Hugging Face vs Nvidia 💣

Hugging Face announced a new partnership with AMD. The news broke at AMD’s Data Center and AI Technology Premiere in San Francisco.

Their goal? Deliver cutting-edge transformer performance on AMD CPUs and GPUs to take on Nvidia.

Did they just become best friends?

AMD also recently announced their M1300x AI super chip, which will ship out later this year. It’s their most advanced chip to date, designed to compete directly with Nvidia’s AI chips.

And this isn’t AMD’s first partnership rodeo — back in May, AMD began collaboration with Microsoft to create AI-specific chips.

To boot, they’ve released a new software package called ROCm. It gives developers access to low-level GPU functions — just like Nvidia’s CUDA.

Our take: We’re seeing a blend of strategic and tactical shots from AMD. But will these new partnerships be enough for AMD to disrupt Nvidia’s 80% market share?

A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA

Adobe’s Generative Recolor 🎨

Simply put, Generative Recolor allows you to swap and explore colors in your images. It’s powered by Adobe’s generative AI, Firefly.

You can also create colors schemes based on text prompts.

It could be especially useful for branding and using color variation to scale content development to keep designs fresh.

Our take: Text prompts are becoming the new human API — the easiest interface to get things done digitally. Unless a better way to interact emerges, we predict it’ll quickly become the default.
