MAIN COURSE

Google's $7M AI fail🧀

On Thursday, Google had to edit its big Super Bowl Gemini ad. It falsely claimed Gouda makes up “50-60%” of global cheese eating.

What happened?

A blogger fact-checked one Super Bowl ad and immediately found fake stats about Gouda cheese.

What did they say?

Google claims it's not an “AI hallucination.” It was just copied wrong info from websites. It had to remake the ad.

The irony?

The ad was meant to show how AI helps businesses. Instead, it shows why you can't trust it.

Google's AI track record?

Tragic. So far it has:

  • Told people to eat glue on pizza

  • Eat rocks daily

  • Made German WWII soldiers “diverse.”

  • Confused Stalin with libertarians

  • and more.

What's funny?

Google can't even fact-check its own AI for a $7M Super Bowl ad spot.

SIDE SALAD

Copilot codes without you🤖

On Tuesday, GitHub upgraded Copilot with “Agent Mode.” GitHub claims it writes and fixes code on its own.

What's new?

Copilot can now work independently, write code, fix its own bugs, and run terminal commands.

How's it different?

The old version needed constant guidance. This one understands context and figures out when extra steps are needed.

What models can it use?

It works with GPT-4, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, or Gemini 2.0 Flash.

What's coming next?

Project Padawan will let you assign issues directly to AI, which creates tested code changes.

Why do I care?

It promises to make coding more autonomous while keeping humans in charge of more important, creative decisions.
