Gemini creeps on your personal data 🕵️‍♂️📄

On Wednesday, Google's Gemini was caught scanning private PDF files without user permission.

Just pulled up my tax return in @Google Docs--and unbidden, Gemini summarized it. So...Gemini is automatically ingesting even the private docs I open in Google Docs? WTF, guys. I didn't ask for this. Now I have to go find new settings I was never told about to turn this crap off.

Huh?

Kevin Bankston, a Senior Advisor on AI Governance, tweeted that Gemini read his private Google Drive documents without consent. The feature can't be disabled, even if you try to turn it off.

Is this affecting everyone?

It seems to mainly impact Google Workspace Labs users. It happens after you press the Gemini button on one document, then automatically triggers for all future files of the same type.

Did Google comment on this?

Both Google support and Gemini AI itself seem unsure about the cause. Gemini claims privacy settings should be available, but they weren’t where it said they would be.

Can I stop it?

Bankston found a settings toggle to disable Gemini summaries in Gmail, Drive, and Docs — but it was already off and didn't solve the problem.

On Thursday, Synchron announced an AI chat feature for its brain-computer interface (BCI). It could allow severely paralyzed individuals to interact with the digital world using their thoughts alone.

Synchron integrated OpenAI into its BCI platform to create a chat feature that deciphers neural signals to control digital devices.

How does it work?
