MAIN COURSE

Your art degree is even more useless 🎨 🚀

On Tuesday, Black Forest Labs unveiled Flux 1.1 Pro. It’s a new text-to-image AI model, along with a paid API for developers.

Is it any good?

Yupp. It features 6x faster generation speeds, improved image quality and prompt adherence, and it beats other image generation models on the ELO 1153, an artificial Analysis benchmark.

Does Elon Musk’s Grok use it?

The new Flux 1.1 Pro is a separate, paid proprietary offering, while Grok uses the earlier, open-source version of Flux.

What about the API?

It’s priced at $0.04 per image for Flux 1.1 Pro.

Any concerns?

No details were provided about the training dataset.

Is that it?

Black Forest Labs will soon release ultra-high-resolution images (up to 2k). It’s also working on a text-to-video system.

How can I use Flux 1.1 Pro?

You can check it out at together.ai, Replicate, fal.ai, and Freepik.

SIDE SALAD

Virtual friends > real ones 🧠 🎮

On Thursday, Altera unveiled its first product. AI agents that can play Minecraft autonomously, like virtual friends.

What are digital humans?

They are AI agents designed to interact and collaborate with humans, potentially experiencing emotions.

How long can they operate?

Up to 4 hours autonomously, which is a significant increase over other AI models.

What makes them unique?

They use GPT-4o to combat data degradation in long-term interactions and employ a brain-inspired multi-module system for cognitive functions.

How well do they perform?

In Minecraft, Altera's agents collected 32% of the total distinct items, vastly outperforming other AI systems.

Who's behind Altera?

Founded by Dr. Robert Yang (CEO), a former MIT professor, and three co-founders.

Why do I care?

Altera’s goal is to create societies of digital humans for applications beyond gaming, like productivity.

Aren’t there other Minecraft-playing models?

Yes, indeedy. Last year, we reported on Voyager. It’s a GPT-powered bot that learns continuously without human intervention.

Last month, we covered Altera’s Project Sid. It's a simulation of over 1,000 autonomous AI agents collaborating in a Minecraft virtual world.
