Claude vs. Pokémon trainers🤖

Anthropic released Claude 3.7 Sonnet and Claude Code. It’s a new model with built-in reasoning capabilities and a companion coding tool.

What's new?

Claude 3.7 Sonnet combines reasoning with normal chatting in one model. OpenAI separates them into different models.

What can it do?

It handles complex tasks like financial analysis and legal work without special prompting. In testing, it built websites, created games, and even beat Pokémon gym leaders.

How much does it cost?

Same as Claude 3.5: $3 per million input tokens, $15 per million output tokens. It’s available now in the Claude app and via the API.

What about coding?

The new Claude Code tool is available in limited testing. It can search codebases, edit files, run tests, and push to GitHub independently.

What can I do with it?

You can control how long Claude spends “thinking,” from 200 milliseconds for simple tasks to 45+ minutes for complex ones.

Why do I care?

As Musk's Grok-3 showed last week, AI development is accelerating. Industry seems to be moving toward unified models rather than specialized ones.

Alien AI beats engineers💽

AI creates bizarre but superior wireless chips with designs that leave engineers puzzled.

What happened?

Princeton researchers used AI to design complex wireless chips in hours instead of weeks. The results outperformed human designs, but look completely alien.

How did AI design the chips?

AI treated each chip as one complete system, rather than combining familiar templates. The results? “Randomly shaped” circuits that no human would create.

Why does it matter?

These chips power 5G modems in phones. Traditional designs hide inefficiencies because we don't fully understand how they work.

What's the catch?

Many AI designs failed completely. Chatbots hallucinate. Humans are still needed to sort good designs from bad ones.

What's next?

Researchers say this is “just the tip of the iceberg.” The method could revolutionize electronics design, creating chips optimized for energy efficiency or performance.
