Amazon's new AI center

PLUS: YouTube's AI dubs

TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, human brains. Welcome back to your daily munch of AI news.

Here’s what’s on the menu today:

  • YouTube’s AI dubbing tool 🎥

Aloud integrates with YouTube to dub videos into multiple languages.

  • Amazon’s AI Center 🏛️

AWS invests $100M to create the Generative AI Innovation Center.

  • Stability AI’s latest update 🎨

SDXL 0.9 — it’s got better graphics, colors, and hands.

APPETIZER

YouTube’s translator AI 🎥

YouTube is testing an AI tool to automatically dub videos into other languages. At VidCon, they announced their new partnership with Aloud, Google’s AI dubbing service.

Given an input video, the tool transcribes the original audio, translates it, then generates a dubbed version in the language of choice.

The tool has been rolled out to several hundred creators, but it’s limited to English, Spanish, and Portuguese for now. YouTube hopes to roll out more languages with worldwide availability soon.

Our take: It’s a huge reach multiplier for creators. Now even those starting out can get a boost, and allow established creators (e.g. Mr. Beast) to spend more time creating content instead of translating it.

BUZZWORD OF THE DAY

CLM

A Causal Language Model is a type of language model which tries to maximize the probability of the next word in a sequence given the preceding words.

It’s essentially a big probability machine.

Let’s use the example of “The weather today is very”. The next word is likely to be “nice”, “hot”, “cold”, or something similar.

GPT-2 is a classic example of a CLM.

MAIN COURSE

Amazon’s $100M AI Center 🏛️

Amazon Web Services invested $100M to create the Generative AI Innovation Center. Its purpose: connect people, technology, and processes around generative AI.

“Through no cost workshops, engagements and training, AWS will help customers imagine and scope the use cases that will create the greatest value for their businesses, based on best practices and industry expertise.”

The main focus? Finance, healthcare, media, manufacturing, automotive, energy, and telecom sectors.

AWS grants participants access to tools like CodeWhisperer (code generation) and Bedrock (their foundational model API service).

Can I join?

They’re prioritizing those who’ve already reached out with generative AI plans — so far, the list includes Highspot, Twilio, Lonely Planet, and Ryanair.

Our take: We’re not surprised. Everyone’s investing into AI — it was about time that Amazon jumped on the bandwagon with a dedicated program of their own.

A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA

Stability AI launches SDXL 0.9 🌃

Stability AI unveiled SDXL 0.9. The startup behind Stable Diffusion and Deep Floyd released its latest text-to-image generator.

Luckily, this update isn’t about the CEO’s integrity. Phew.

More realistic hands? Thumbs are a little stubby, but hey, progress.

The latest version means yet another improvement in image quality, and better prompt-following.

Apart from text-to-image prompting, SDXL also allows image-to-image prompting (creating variations based on an input image), inpainting (filling in missing parts of an image), and outpainting (extending an image).

It’s currently available on Stability’s Clipdrop. They expect to release the API on GitHub shortly.

Our take: It’s cool to see some progress on the realistic hands front… though there’s still some room for improvement. Are human hands the new benchmark for generative image AI?
